Advert analysis


For my advert analysis I chose Gillette’s razor product. The image presents three of the top sportsman in the world each holding Gillette’s product who is Federer, Henry and Woods. To begin with, this advert was found in Men’s Health magazine as to whom the target audience of the magazine are young adults/adults. In addition, the primary audience that this specific advert is targeted are males in general who shave on a regular basis. As you may notice, the men are dressed formally in black surrounded by a textured dark black background, the lighting affects the atmosphere and the mood of the image. The setting seems to connote relaxing and comfortable which Gillette are trying to prove by their razor. Also, there are hints of white outlining the figures. The black suit and the black shirt connotes wealth, smartness and class, this engages the reader as the males are inspired by these professional sportsman, therefore, it will make the reader feel that if they have Gillette’s razors, they will be more classy and stylish.
The advert image is framed in a way that the sportsman faces and the shine on the razor shows. This helps the advert directly engage the reader of what is exactly is the main subject of the image.
On the other hand, the men are all in the same position and holding the razor in a similar way. This connotes that the reader can also join this fashion of having a Gillette razor which could make them more stylish.
The subjects of the photograph are sportsman’s that have inspired millions of people in the world in different sports. This targets the majority of males as Thierry Henry is famous for being an international football player, Tiger Woods is famous for being the number 1 golf player and Roger Federer who is currently the ultimate tennis player of all time. All three of these people together in a image for Gillette will truly attract men for Gillette’s products.
In addition to the formal suit the celebrities are wearing, it can also connote how Gillette is only for men who are the most important, which every male would like to be.
