Magazine Hwk Due Tue 15 March

’There are so many things to expect from this movie, from scarring shocking moments to emotionally mind blowing scenes’’ – Daljeeta Juttla who plays Anne is this intense horror.

Primetime productions, one of the greatest British production companies have released a new horror film called The Outsider which will be released later this year. Can this film be potentially the greatest British horror of the decade? Well we spoke to the actress, Daljeeta Juttla who stars in this truly horrific and brutally terrifying movie.
Question: This is a great opportunity for you, how did you feel when you got to play the part for one of the greatest production company in the U.K.?
D: I am really grateful for this opportunity particularly because I usually play a normal person in the previous movies that I have starred in and to be starring in a horror movie by Primetime productions would add a big twist to my acting and would be a great experience for everyone to see me play a totally different person.
Question: So what do we expect to see from this movie, anything different from a typical horror genre?
D: There are so many things to expect from this movie, from scarring shocking moments to emotionally mind blowing scenes. What the director added to the typical conventions of horror is that a teenage girl would play the murderer. So ultimately, she is getting revenge on the people who bullied her during her time and continue to harass her until she just unveils a possessed side of her, unleashing all her fury which really makes this film really shocking and I find that it is good for a change that a woman is the killer rather than the usual.
Question: You play a possessed teenage girl, is this similar to Jennifer’s Body?
D: In Jennifer’s Body, the horror theme in the movie is more comic towards the audience as Megan Fox is playing the demon and the storyline is very different to The Outsider. However, the notion of turning from a normal person to a demon is similar but, in one of the main conventions of British films is to have British actors which mainly the British audience will be able to identify with for example the British locations.

Redraft Miss Wigley DUE MONDAY

REDRAFT

I believe that audiences are more powerful than the institution, this can be proved to a certain extent by considering what input the audience has alongside the institution. My three primary texts, which are reality TV shows are The X Factor, Britain’s got Talent and I’m a Celebrity, Get me out of here. All three texts are similar in a sense that they are all from the same genre and also they all broadcasted on the same channel. Also, they all run on three different platforms, which are print, e-media, and broadcast. Consequently, I believe fulfilling these three platforms is a necessity for a successful show as it will be able to engage the audience in several different ways.

The X Factor is the U.Ks most watched reality TV show which is aired on ITV1 and involves audience interaction such as the red button where votes can be casted and is totally dependable upon the audience to decide which consequently promotes the audience theory. It can also be noted that institutions may want the audience to believe that they have all the power and control of the show in order to gain maximum interaction between the audience and the institution thus creating a more popular show. This shows that audiences are becoming increasingly powerful in shaping the show. The hit TV show attracts on an average of 17.5 million viewers each series.

Furthermore, The X Factor website also allows the audience to interact with the show. One way it promotes interaction is by doing weekly voting polls and forums on the website which the audience can vote and have their say and see what other viewers think too. For example, the current question on the x factor website is “Do you think Matt Cardle was a worthy winner?” furthermore, they also display their broadcasted show online so if anyone misses the show or would want to watch it again, they will be up to date with the show. This may be due to the fact that the institution does not ultimately want to disinterest the audience by engaging them as much as possible throughout all three platforms.

This therefore, shows us that the audiences are becoming increasingly powerful on what media institutions plan and put in the show. Also the website allows viewers to share their views and opinions through the X Factor blog and forum and also read the gossip on what goes on behind the scenes through The Sun which runs on the print platform.

Also because X Factor is a popular TV show viewers can catch up via the ITVPlayer. Furthermore, a social networking site such as Facebook and Twitter allow audiences to shape and place their views across, and is a place where audiences interact with one and other and share opinions through joining groups and supporting campaigns. Audience feedback and opinions have been successful, this is shown as the X Factor and Apple have joint together in a bid to react to the change in technology by releasing x factor apps.

My secondary text that I have chosen to for my case study is I’m a Celebrity, Get me out of here which is also shown on ITV 1 and involves audience interaction as it is also similar to the x factor as it is a reality TV show which attracts a wide variety of viewers. I’m a Celebrity, Get me out of here has a website for viewers to interact with the show which further engages viewers. The website has a range of activities and also includes live footage and highlights from the Jungle, and also has a blog on the website which allows the audience to share their opinions and views about the show. The audience is therefore hugely powerful in shaping the show as mainstreams audiences watch the show which is successful in using gratifications which keeps the audience entertained.

My third and final text that I have chosen for my case study is Britain’s Got Talent which is very similar to both of my other texts as they are all reality TV shows and are all aired on ITV1 and involves audience interaction as they all attract mainstream audiences. Britain’s got talent attracts an audience of 6 million.  The show is very similar to the x factor and is in fact identical in the way they approach their audiences as the structure of both shows is the same. Furthermore, The BGT website includes competitions and news about the judges and also a feedback forum which allows the audience shape the output of the media.

Pitch Evaluation

Presentation Evaluation
WWW: - Spoke clearly and made eye contact with every person in the room.
              - Only referred to the PowerPoint after each topic spoken.
              - I knew which part was spoken before hand in order to create a smooth flow of the pitch.

EBI: - Should of stood in the middle rather than on the side.
-I spoke about more things to show my full understanding.
-Answered the questions asked by the assistants.

Everyone participated in equal parts of the presentation where the person that researched a topic regarding the presentation spoke about it.Therfore, this would allow each person to fully understand what they were talking about and more importantly, not read off the board.

The presentation was very simple, mostly bullet points surrounded by images to allow our presentation to be more lively and entertaining in order to engage the audience.

Self Evaluation

  • Attainment - N/A

  • My attainment is average due to my unawareness of my performance as I have not recieved any feedback from my work on the blog.

  • Effort -3

  • I would say that my effort in Media is good/average because I do Attempt all work in class at a good standard. However, my homework has been good and up to date over the term but now I have been slacking on homework due to my illness.

  • Punctuality -2

  • I have not missed a single lesson and have arrived on time to all media lessons apart from last week due to illness.

  • Submission and quality of homework - 3

  • I do generally submit homework on time but I would say for Ms Wigley,I have not posted homework for a long time on my blog. However she has discussed this issue with me and I have posted all the homework that was required on the blog.My homework generally has good quality but sometimes on less important homework I may leave it to the last minute which causes the quality of the homework to be unsatisfactory.

  • Ability to work independently - 1

  • I would say this is my strongest skill of Media as generally I mostly rely on my ideas to produce either classwork or homework

  • Quality of writing - 2

  • N/A

  • Organisation of blog - 2

  • My blog is very organised based on how I label each work that I post,in order of date and which teacher it concerns. However, lately I had posted work that should of been posted a month ago on my blog recently, which caused the order of date for the work to be unorganised.

  • Oral contributions in class - 4

  • I would say this is my weakest point simply because I generally lack confidence and rely of teachers to ask me questions in order for me to contribute to the class.

www: - My work is up to date on the blog
              - I have earned many credits over the term, including two credits in one lesson
              - I behave well in all lessons.

ebi: - Don't plagiarise any work
              - Submit all work on time even if i am ill
              - Revise the things we learn in class at home, every day.
